How long does one have to wait for a project to be completed? What is the time limit after which the construction of Thessaloniki’s subway acquired a mythological, anecdotal and symbolic character, consciously or unconsciously influencing the collective psychism of the city? How do we perceive public space and its constant reformation? In what way is the condition of waiting established in a city and why is a group of young people forced to leave it?
After a series of sold-out performances in Thessaloniki and south-western extensions in Athens, Patras, Chania, Chania, Veroia, Kozani and Ioannina, the performance “Caution: Work in progress” comes to the Μill of Performing Arts in Larissa, bringing back the chronically unresolved issue of Thessaloniki’s subway: a multidimensional issue with political, economic, cultural and social implications, hidden for years under the carpet. Milestones of its history, interviews with stakeholders and on-site research are intertwined with fictional stories and personal reflections in order to transform the anticipation of the project into an alternative social reflection.
A group of young actors who don’t remember what their city was like without construction sites investigate the stagnation-movement dichotomy on stage in an attempt to answer the question: What kind of tranfer do young people dream of, not only on the streets but also in their lives? Struggling to resist a law of resignation, the group creates a play about the construction project. A play that is also desperately seeking its completion.
