Premiere for this year’s Mill of Performing Arts with the marathon participatory dance performance ”Danceathon”
After the successful realization of the danceathon at the 29th International Dance Festival of Kalamata and at the art space M54 (in co-production) in Athens, Anastasia Brousioti and the Almalibre.co team bring the dance marathon for the first time in Larissa. The danceathon will take place within the framework of the Mill of Performing Arts, an annual festival co-organized by SMouTh and the Mayoralty of Culture of the Municipality of Larissa for the 11th year focusing on the concept of “Parallel”.
What is the danceathon
Danceathon is a meditative process based on the enjoyment of perpetual movement. During it, participants, allied with each form of dance and movement, music, intense physicality and fatigue, redefine and discover themselves, while gradually moving towards ecstasy and personal liberation. The dance marathon has a maximum duration of five hours and is led by the dancers of Almalibre.co. Participants, as they map their personal path based on continuous movement, freely choose which moments to follow the musical and choreographic map proposed by the group or when to coexist with their co-dancers since it is them who decide whether to complete the route or not. The danceathon is a safe framework without any kind of competition or criticism, because its essence is not in proving who is the best dancer or the fastest runner, but it is based on the will, perseverance and the sense of redemption that compensates everyone who reaches the end by dancing. Spectators can stay in the venue as long as they wish and watch either the whole or part of the marathon.
