A visual arts and drama workshop for children and their parents

Ah, September! Every school is ready to welcome children for a brand-new school year.

Every school?

Not quite.

There’s one school that isn’t sure it’s ready to leave its parents behind. It’s the very first time, and it has no idea what to expect. You see, it’s brand new—fresh out of the box!

The municipality proudly presents its newest school in newspapers and on television. They paint it, prepare it, decorate it… Everything is ready.

Its parents won’t be far away, of course. They’ll be just next door, where the middle school and high school are. But still… it can’t stop worrying.

What if it can’t do it? What if it isn’t what everyone expects? What if nobody likes it?

After all, it’s heard the children walking past shouting that they hate school!

No. No way.

THE SCHOOL REFUSES TO GO TO SCHOOL!

Inspired by the central idea of The School Is Going to School by Adam Rex and Christian Robinson, this visual arts and drama workshop invites children and their parents to explore the thoughts and feelings that often accompany the start of the school year.

Through drama, educational theatre techniques, and painting, children and parents will have the opportunity to step outside the story, share their own hopes, questions, and worries about school, and listen to one another’s perspectives. Together, they will build confidence and emotional readiness for their own return to the classroom.
